Essential Skills Passport
The Post-Training Phase typically ends once the Learner has assumed the Supervisory position. It should be noted, however, that learning never stops. The Assessor/Learner relationship often continues beyond the Training Phase, becoming a peer mentoring relationship once the Learner is also a Supervisor.
While the best way for the Learner to grow and develop into the new role is to put his/her skills into practice, checkpoints can be used to assess how prepared the Learner is to take on the supervisory role. The completed Learning and Performance Record and Essential Skills Passport provide a snapshot of the Learner’s progress and development. In addition, the Learner may opt to complete a Multiple Choice Examination to further assess his/her readiness for the role across the various essential skills areas.
Multiple Choice Exam
The multiple choice exam is an informal assessment of the following essential skills:
- Document Use
- Oral Communication
- Problem Solving and Decision Making
- Critical Thinking
- Job Task Planning
- Use of Memory
- Finding Information
The multiple choice examination is not meant to be a summative evaluation tool in the sense that low scores mean that a promotion will not occur. Instead, the exam serves as a post-training assessment of skills development. It can provide the Learner and Assessor with a gauge of skill areas that require ongoing enhancement. The examination is an optional resource.
